Take Action!
This is a section of the website which enables both members and non-members to be aware of situations which are pertinent to us, as anglers, and to take action, if they wish. The Edmonton Trout Fishing Club does not endorse or neccessarily support any topics listed, but encourages you to use your judgement and to Take Action! if you feel you should.
If you know of an issue that is not listed, please contact us, and let us know about it.
Thank you.

This inclusion on the Edmonton Trout Fishing Club Website is written in the hope that members would offer their help to solve a serious situation which exists off the coast of British Columbia.
Elizabeth James wrote to Don Meredith, President of the Outdoor Writers of Canada, the following e-mail which is being brought to the attention of members of the Edmonton Trout Fishing Club for their review and consideration. The OWC, as an organization, does not advocate environmental or political causes, however, OWC members may do so individually.
"By way of introduction, I am a graduate of Roger Brunt's North American School of Outdoor Writing. However, because I freelance on mostly political issues in British Columbia, I have not pursued membership in OWC or OWAA.
Nevertheless, I have followed with dismay the serious threat to BC's wild salmon stocks posed by fish-farms located in the Broughton Archipelago region off the BC Coast. It is an issue with which you may already be familiar.
A tireless researcher, Alexandra Morton, has won a David & Goliath court case against our provincial government, but that regime is determined to find a way around that decision. Accordingly, she and former Environment Minister and talk-show host, Rafe Mair, have been circulating a petition which can be found at
www.adopt-a-fry.org
Would OWC members be w illing to lend their weight in this fight?
In addition, I am contacting OWAA in the hope that its members will also assist, because wild salmon know no borders between B.C. and Alaska
Alexandra has already attracted over 13,000 signatures, and forwarded them to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans. So far, she and the signatories have received no acknowledgement. She now believes that we need to double or triple the number of names on the petition - in other words, get so much support that the government will have no alternative but to pay attention.
Anything you can do to assist in this fight to protect our wild salmon, and all the species that depend upon their survival, would be very much appreciated.
Please do not hesitate to contact Alexandra at: Alexandra Morton <
wildorca@island.net> or Rafe Mair at:
rafe@rafeonline.com (NB: Rafe is extremely busy with his own fight to protect Crown owned BC rivers from privatization by this same provincial government and its favoured private power corporations) should you need additional information.
Thank you so much for considering this request."
